The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

Alec Bohm (left hand discomfort)
Status: Out of the lineup
Bohm was removed from the Aug. 29 game against the Braves with what the Phillies said was “left hand discomfort.” He was in some pain after fouling off a pitch in a first inning at-bat against Charlie Morton. Manager Rob Thomson initially feared that he suffered a hamate injury, but it appears the Phillies have avoided the worst case scenario. “The X-rays, there was no structural damage,” Thomson said. “We got a break.”
Bohm is out of the lineup Sunday against the Braves, marking the third consecutive game he’s missed. Manager Rob Thomson said “he’s getting better, but just not quite ready to play yet.” Thomson said Bohm’s grip strength is improving, and he still doesn’t expect him to land on the injured list. Spencer Turnbull (right lat strain)
Status: 60-day injured list
Turnbull is throwing up to 120 feet this week. Thomson noted on Aug. 28 that if Turnbull does return this season, it will be as a reliever, because there just isn’t enough time remaining for him to build up and start against.
Turnbull will throw a bullpen this week. The Phillies remain hopeful, but non-committal on whether the righty will make it back this season. (Updated by Tim Kelly on Sept. 1)

Andrew Painter (Tommy John surgery)
Status: Minor league 60-day injured list
The No. 1 overall prospect in the Phillies’ minor league system underwent Tommy John surgery on July 25, 2023.
Painter was scheduled to have an up-down on Sept. 1, with Thomson saying “he’s doing pretty well.” How he fares in that will determine what the next steps are. (Updated by Tim Kelly on Sept. 1)

Status: 15-day injured list
