Brett Baty Out 4-to-6 Weeks With A Fractured Finger

0 0

When it comes to his career as a big leaguer, it’s been a tough go-around for New York Mets prospect Brett Baty. After stints in the majors haven’t garnered the results many hoped for, Baty has been back in Triple-A. His spot taken as Mark Vientos has flourished.

While back in Syracuse, Baty has done well and had a chance for a potential September call-up. However, that doesn’t seem likely anymore after the imaging revealed a fracture in his left index finger. Putting him out of action for the next 4-6 weeks. This the Mets announced Sunday afternoon.

The injury occurred last Thursday after he was hit in the finger on a check swing foul ball. He was removed from the game after that. After struggling on the major league club this season through 50 games and 171 plate appearances, Baty has slashed .262/.358/.528 with Triple-A Syracuse. He’s hit 16 home runs and drove in 43 runs across 58 games. While in Triple-A this season, Baty had been splitting time at third base and second base as he was trying to find a permanent spot in the Mets’ organization. He was even a designated hitter for one game.

A return to the big leagues next month could’ve been in the works for the Mets left-handed bat. But the injury leaves his future with the Mets even cloudier.
