Schedule & Results

Puerto Rico only have one World Champion title to their name - WBSC Baseball World Cup winners in 1951 in Mexico City - and will play in their eighth final across all WBSC Baseball World Cup age categories (all in the WBSC Baseball World Cup) and World Baseball Classics since the WBC offered the world champion title since 2013. Their last final in a WBSC Baseball World Cup was in 1976 in Cartagena, which saw them lose to Korea while Puerto Rico have also contested two World Baseball Classic finals since, losing to USA in 2017 and Dominican Republic in 2013.

Japan has won two U-15 World Titles and five medals overall. They hold also the U-18 Baseball World Cup, the U-23 Baseball World Cup, the Women's Baseball World Cup, the Premier12, the World Baseball Classic and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Gold Medal.

The starting pitchers for the final are Darrel Sanchez for Puerto Rico and Shoki Hayashi. Read here our matchup preview, with interesting data provided by WBSC

Key Links

Shoki Hayashi had issues to find his command in the top of the first inning, loading the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch, with no outs. However, the Japanese starter limited the damage, giving up only one run on a sac fly to left field by Arnaldo Rodriguez to plate to plate Adniel Quiles. Puerto Rico took the lead, 1-0.
