Mets Minors Recap: Megill, Fujinami Post Scoreless Outings

0 2

Led by Tylor Megill and Shintaro Fujinami, the Syracuse Mets pitched a combined one-hitter in their victory over the Durham Bulls. Binghamton’s shortstop Wyatt Young has had a torrid August, reaching base every game in August while having an OPS of .949.

Triple-A

Durham Bulls (59-66) 0, Syracuse Mets (68-55) 1

BOX SCORE

It was a classic pitcher’s duel in Syracuse’s victory over Durham. Both teams recorded a single hit, but Luisangel Acuña’s sacrifice fly that brought home Allen in the second inning was the difference.

  • RHP Tylor Megill (3.15 ERA) 4 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K (79 pitches/ 50 strikes)
  • RHP Shintaro Fujinami (7.17 ERA) 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Max Kranick (3.35 ERA) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

The Syracuse pitching staff, led by Tylor Megill, threw a combined one-hitter. They allowed only four baserunners all game while striking out nine Durham Bulls. It’s an excellent sight for Megill, who is most likely the first pitcher called up by the major league club in case of an emergency.

Wyatt Young’s hot August continued on Saturday. He extended his on-base streak to 19 games and has reached base in every game in August. His slash line for the month is .386/.493/.456 (.949 OPS).

High-A

Jersey Shore BlueClaws (66-53) 5, Brooklyn Cyclones (57-62) 1

BOX SCORE

The BlueClaws held Brooklyn’s offense in check in their 5-1 loss on Saturday. While the Cyclones collected only two hits, Nick Morabito was on base two times and stole two bases, increasing his total to 55 on the season.

  • RHP Austin Troesser (2.84 ERA) 2 2/3 IP, 5 H, `1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K (45 pitches/27 strikes)
  • RHP Dakota Hawkins (4.42 ERA) 4 1/3, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Low-A

Palm Beach Cardinals (74-43) 6, St. Lucie Mets (39-78) 3

BOX SCORE

St. Lucie lost its fifth-straight game against Palm Beach and faces a series sweep on Sunday. The Low-A Mets can never seem to consistently put both sides of the baseball together and have struggled to compete in the 2024 season.

After a less-than-stellar start by Saul Garcia, St. Lucie’s bullpen pieced together a scoreless and one-hit 6 1/3 innings. Escalante has been solid since his call-up from the complex league squad.
