Missed it by that much: Cubs 7, White Sox 6

Chicago Cubs v Chicago White Sox

Two Benny Bombs can’t quite complete the comeback, and even our manager handsomeness metric fell short

Inasmuch as you can call a loss to a hated Crosstown rival run by more insipid ownership than our own a “good game,” well, this was sort of a good one. The start — featuring Garrett “no bullpen” Crochet getting whaled on by a truly horrible (OK, hot and cold) Cubs offense — was not fun, as the White Sox fell behind, 7-0, before batting a third time. From there, though, the game was “fun,” somehow including Andrew Benintendi having both a two-homer game AND (way, way, way, way, way, way, way more improbable) an assist at home plate from left field! Still, despite getting the first two batters on with singles in the ninth and loading the bases with two outs (Benny walk, natch), run No. 7 proved elusive.
