Brandon Lowe and Bullpen help Rays power past Cards

After dropping the first two games, the Rays are trying to avoid the sweep in St. Louis with Shane Baz on the mound.

Rays gave Baz some run support early in the 1st inning, with Dylan Carlson getting two RBIs.

Your eyes do not deceive you, the Rays have scored w/RISP.

Rays did lose Josh Lowe early after he hit a foul ball off of his knee.

Fortunately he is day to day, as x-rays were negative.

The lead did not last long, as the Cardinals responded right back with Baz starting out by walking the very first hitter of the game, then with one out, hitting Wilson Contreas to bring up Nolan Arenado, who singled home a run.

The next batter, Brendan Donvan doubled the tying run to make it a 2-2 game with one out.

A sac out brings home another St. Louis Run, and the Cards take a 3-2 lead after 1 inning.

In the bottom of the 3rd, the Cardinals got another run from Goldschmidt again, putting the score at 4-2

Shane Baz struggled the whole game, and was pulled after 4.1 IP, giving up 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, and 2 Ks. He was lifted for Garrett Cleavinger, who was able to get out of the inning with no damage.

The offense seemed to be struggling as well, as the Rays had multiple opportunities with RISP, but could not capitalize, hitting into 3 double plays, but were finally able to break through in the 7th inning, with runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out, Yandy Diaz hit a sac fly to bring the Rays within one.

Brandon Lowe was next up, and the Cards went to a LHP to try and counter the BLowe power, but it didn’t matter.

Brandon Lowe hits the first pitch out for a 2 run HR, and the Rays take a 5-4 lead!

Rays got an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning, as Taylor Walls opened the inning with a ground rule double, and then Jose Caballero singled Walls home to give the rays a 6-4 lead.

That is the lead St. Louis native Pete Fairbanks would have to work with.

Door, SHUT.

FINAL: Rays - 6, Cardinals - 4

Rays move to 58-56, and head back to the Trop to face the Baltimore Orioles and a battle of the Zach(k)s as former Ray Eflin takes on Littell
