Red hot Sox try to keep 24-hour win streak going!

It is said a tie is like kissing your sister, so a tie for something ignominious such as, uh, er, the modern American League record losing streak, must be like kissing your sister’s pet iguana. However, thanks to the A’s, that’s all behind us now, and the Sox can concentrate on trying to outdo the 1962 Mets in an entirely different form of ignominy, whilst enjoying a mighty one-game winning streak.

Trying to keep the streak going, against those same lowly A’s, is Davis Martin, making just his second start post a Tommy John Surgery break. The first one didn’t go well — four runs in 3 ²⁄₃ against the Twins, but this is a lesser opponent than Minnesota, so maybe things will go better.

Oakland starts with Joey Estes on the mound, a 22-year old righty who sports a 4.77 ERA but has been solid in his last three starts, including holding the Dodgers to two hits and two runs five days ago. Estes throws about 55% 4-seamers that average 93 mph, followed by a sweeper and slider. He’ll face a White Sox lineup that actually managed to score five runs last night.

Martin is new to all the Oakland lineup, since he didn’t face them during his brief pre-surgery time with the Sox in 2022,

First pitch is scheduled for 2:37 Central under perfect baseball weather, a sunny 80 degrees with light wind toward right center (they won’t have that in Sacramento in August). Usual broadcast suspects.
