Stripling hopes to extend Sox losing streak

Tonight is game two of the Oakland Athletics series with the Chicago White Sox at the Oakland Coliseum. The Sox, riding an MLB- worst losing streak at 21 games, hopes to avoid surpassing the 1988 Orioles for the longest losing streak ever. The White Sox, now 27-88 on the season, have not won a game since July 10. They’re the third team since 1900 to lose at least twenty games in a row.

Mark Kotsay will send Ross Stripling to the mound in his third start since returning from the Injured List (IL). On the season, the 34-year-old righty Stripling is 2-10 with a 5.64 ERA in sixty-seven innings. He’ll be facing Jonathan Cannon, the 24-year-old rookie righty out of the University of Georgia. Cannon is 1-5 on the year with a 4.11 ERA in seventy innings pitched (11 starts, 13 appearances).
