Mariners Moose Tracks, 8/4/24: Mitch Haniger, Ben Joyce, and Shohei Ohtani

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Seattle Mariners
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Sunday, and if it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Links.

In Mariners news...

  • Perfectly normal at-bat, nothing to see here, just a perfectly normal Mariners win. No further investigation required.
  • Victor Robles’ agent, Rafa Nieves, had some nice things to say about his client and the Mariners yesterday. Personally, I’ve seen enough from Robles to merit an extension. Regression shmegression I want this guy on this team. It can probably wait until the offseason, but I could get used to a Julio, Randy, Victor outfield for at least one more season.
  • On the topic of Victor Robles, check out this great article from Mike Petriello taking a look at swing speed data for a good look at Robles improved approach.

Around the league...

  • The only way this guy could get any better is if he somehow started to pitch. That’d be crazy!
  • Some may recall back in the Fox Sports Northwest days there was a highlight show called Final Score that was hosted by Andrew Siciliano. Siciliano had a tendency to do different animated voices and inflections when highlights for certain players came up, including Ichiro and Brad Lidge (ruh roh Rad Ridge!) My favorite of these was when he would put on a caveman-esque voice for a Mike Morse homerun highlight and say, “me Mike Morse, hit ball hard.” I like to think Andrew would’ve narrated this clip as, “me Ben Joyce, throw ball hard.”
  • I noodled around looking at alumni for a bit and I really cannot figure out who hit all those homeruns out of SDSU.
  • Mariners legend Rafael Montero cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land by the Astros.

Nick’s pick...

  • Holy shot.
  • Oh to be a boat-sinking Arctic walrus with my own floating couch.
