Garrett Starts Rehab, Diekman Released

0 0

Reed Garrett has joined the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for a rehab assignment.

Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation on July 10, marking a significant loss to a then-already depleted Mets bullpen.

The 31-year-old had been a staple in the ‘pen, pitching to a 3.64 ERA and recording 13.5 SO/9 in 42 innings pitched. Since going down, the Mets have fortified the ‘pen with Phil MatonHuascar Brazobán, and Alex Young.

The Mets also announced the release of Jake Diekman. The left-hander struggled in his Mets’ tenure, pitching to a 5.63 ERA, 1.469 FIP, and worse 6.14 FIP in 32 innings.

Diekman, however, will always have a place in the Mets 2024 history, as he struck out Aaron Judge and collected a save on July 23 against the Yankees.
