Mets Promoting Top Pitching Prospect Brandon Sproat To Triple-A

According to Chase Ford of MiLB Central, the New York Mets are promoting top prospect Brandon Sproat (RHP) to Triple-A Syracuse. Sproat, 23 years old, was drafted in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He has split time this season between High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton.

In 2024, Sproat has posted a 2.05 ERA between the High-A and Double-A levels. He has thrown 87 2/3 innings and has struck out 110 while allowing only 51 hits. He spent only 25 1/3 innings in High-A to begin the season (1.07 ERA and 33 strikeouts), before being promoted to Double-A where he posted a 2.45 ERA across 62 1/3 innings. In his most recent start on Friday, Sproat struck out the final 11 batters he faced and induced a total of 21 swings-and-misses across five scoreless innings.

Sproat’s underlying metrics in the minors have certainly lined up with his performances this year. In Double-A, Sproat owned a 2.90 FIP and 2.58 xFIP, both extremely strong numbers. Among 320 minor league qualified pitchers, Sproat’s K/9 (11.29) ranks 25th, K-BB ratio (23.7%) ranks 19th, opposing batting average (.169) ranks eighth, and xFIP (2.92) ranks 13th. He has been one of the best pitchers in all of minor league baseball this season.

As a result, Sproat, who owns a 100 mph fastball, lethal changeup, a cutter/slider hybrid, and curveball, has flown up prospect ranking boards. In Baseball America’s most updated rankings, Sproat finally broke into the top 100. In Metsmerized’s newest top-35 rankings, Sproat will check in at No. 2 in the system.

If he continues his upward trajectory with Triple-A Syracuse, not only may he impact the major-league club by season’s end, but also may be looked upon as one of the better pitching prospects in all of baseball. It appears the Mets have found a great talent in Sproat.
