Rays to promote Kameron Misner

The Rays have also placed OF Richie Palacios on the 10-day IL

Prior to Friday night’s series opener against the Houston Astros, the Tampa Bay Rays are expected to select OF Kameron Misner from Triple-A Durham and have placed OF Richie Palacios on the 10-day Injured List.

Misner, 26, came to the Rays in the November 2021 trade that sent Joey Wendle to the Miami Marlins. The Marlins selected Misner 35th overall in the competitive balance round of the 2019 draft. The talented outfielder has four above average tools as he possesses plus raw power, plus speed, plus fielding, and a plus arm in all three positions of the outfield. Unfortunately, he also has well below average contact skills, which has translated into high strikeout numbers.

In 2023, during his first action in Triple-A, Misner hit .226/.363/.458 with 21 HR and 21 stolen bases over 519 plate appearances, with a 17.5 BB% and 35.8 K%. Misner has seen an improvement this year, but is still striking out 30.5% of the time. Thus far over 433 plate appearances in 2024, Misner is hitting .247/.356/.446 and leads the Durham Bulls in both HR (15) and stolen bases (27); Misner is one of only three players in minor league baseball with at least 15 HR and over 25 stolen bases.

Palacious, 27, injured his right knee while stealing a base during Wednesday’s game against the Marlins. The Rays acquired Palacious prior to the season and thus far, he is hitting .233/.350/.332 with 5 HR and 19 stolen bases over 88 games, registering 104 wRC+ and has played a variety of positions accruing 1.4 fWAR.
