One more crack at the dregs of the AL.

The revamped Kansas City Royals will take on the somehow more even diminished Chicago White Sox this afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field on the Southside. This will be the 13th and final matchup of the season between these two teams and the Sox will be glad to not see this team again as the Royals have gone 11-1 in these matchups this season.

Brady Singer will start for Kansas City. Singer is currently in the midst of his best stretch of the season. He had a 1.76 ERA over his last seven starts, allowing one or no runs in six of them while completing the seventh inning four times. He carries a 15.2 inning scoreless streak into this game. Singer has started in every series against the White Sox this season and posted a 1.47 ERA in 18.1 innings.

Chicago will counter with Drew Thorpe. Acquired this past offseason in a trade with Seattle, Thorpe got off to a nice start to the season in Double-A and put together a string of five straight starts of six-plus innings and two or fewer runs in the majors. That ended in his last outing, however, as he surrendered eight runs while failing to complete the first inning against Seattle. His prior start was against the Royals and is his best this season, allowing five baserunners while punching out five across six shutout innings.

First pitch: 1:10 pm CDT
