Morning Briefing: Mets Agree To Trade For Nationals Jesse Winker

0 5

Good morning, Mets fans!

The news Mets fans didn’t want to hear came out on Saturday, as Kodai Senga went back on the injured list. The Mets placed him on the 15-day IL as a result of the left calf strain he suffered on Friday night in his first start of the season against the Braves in which he exited the game in the sixth inning with the injury.

To add salt to an open wound, the Mets then got shut out by the Braves 4-0 on Saturday afternoon on a day when the Mets’ offense only had four hits. With the loss, the Mets fall back half a game from the Braves to fall back into third place in the NL East and third place in the National League’s Wild Card race.

In some good news, the Mets acquired outfielder Jesse Winker in a trade with the Washington Nationals right before midnight. The deal was first reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The Mets and Braves conclude their series on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET. It will be Reynaldo Lopez (7-4, 2.12 ERA) on the mound for the Braves (55-48) against David Peterson (5-0, 3.14 ERA) for the Mets (55-49).
