Mets Minors Recap: Morris’ Dynamic Start Leads Brooklyn to Win

The Brooklyn Cyclones coasted to a comfortable win on Friday night against the Rome Emperors behind an electric start from Kade Morris. Morris, who collected six strikeouts and zero walks, carried a perfect game into the seventh inning.

Syracuse blew their 3-2 lead in the eighth inning, dropping their Friday matchup against Buffalo. Syracuse struggled to bring around their baserunners, getting 13 guys on but going 3-for-11 in RISP situations.

Despite his underwhelming season numbers, Dom Hamel has come on strong for the Syracuse Mets. The 25-year-old struck out nine and walked none in his Friday start—he has allowed a combined five ER, 19 strikeouts, and three walks. With the unfortunate injury luck of the major league club, Hamel has made a strong case to make his MLB debut this season–whether it’s as a long man in the bullpen or a spot start.

The Rumble Ponies fell down early and couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 5-2 against the Flying Squirrels. Jeremiah Jackson stayed hot in July with two more hits and RBI, raising his monthly OPS to .731.

Richmond jumped all over McLean early, scoring three runs in the first inning and allowing a long homer in the fourth. McLean has been solid in July, posting a 2.77 ERA, but has yet to record a scoreless outing since May 16th.

Despite the Cyclones’ offense putting up 12 runs, the story of the game was starting pitcher Kade Morris. Morris carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before giving up three runs in the frame. Offensively, Chris Suero went bonkers in a breakout performance, including this long home run.

Omar De Los Santos and Kellum Clark also added extra-base hits, bringing in three of the Cyclones’ 12 runs.

The St. Lucie offense combined for four runs and 14 combined baserunners in their 4-0 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals. Ronald Hernandez and Boston Baro continued their great seasons for St. Lucie, which has maintained above a .750 OPS for most of the season.

Both DSL squads split their doubleheader fixtures–Daris Cordero went 4-for-7 for DSL Mets Blue on Friday.
