The Mets are back for the second half of the season! What a first half it was for the Mets, who stumbled out of the gate and endured a rough month of May before lighting the baseball world on fire over the last month-and-a-half. They now find themselves in a playoff spot with under two weeks to go before the trade deadline.

Hope you are ready for the second half of 2024! Let’s go!

Across his last four starts, he has allowed four earned runs over 25 innings (1.44 ERA, 3.80 FIP) with opponents slashing .165/.268/.247 against him. His last start was tainted by two home runs, the first two he had allowed since June 14. In Manaea’s only start against the Marlins this season, he gave up two runs on five hits over five innings.

Game Notes

Last Sunday, Eric Orze was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse and Joey Lucchesi was sent outright to Triple-A Syracuse after going unclaimed on waivers. David Peterson returned from the Paternity list on Monday. On Wednesday, left-handed reliever Alex Young was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants and was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. In a corresponding move, Tyler Jay was designated for assignment.

Manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Kodai Senga will throw between 80 and 85 pitches in his rehab start for Syracuse on Saturday. If all goes well, the team plans on reactivating him in time to start against the Atlanta Braves next weekend at Citi Field. It will mark Senga’s fourth appearance of his rehab assignment as he works his way back from a shoulder injury he suffered during spring training.

Three Things To Watch For

  1. Hug Watch in Miami. The Marlins have the worst record in the National League heading into play today and they will be in sell mode at the deadline. Reliever Tanner Scott is drawing a lot of interest (1.42 ERA, 1.079 WHIP) as is Chisholm Jr. Further players who may be dealt include Bell alongside relievers Declan Cronin and Calvin Faucher.
  2. Homers. Manaea’s strong run to end the first half was due in large part to keeping the ball in the park. He did, however, allow two homers in his last outing against the Colorado Rockies. On the other side, Cabrera has given up home runs in five consecutive starts. The Mets are second in the National League in home runs, so there could be some offensive fireworks tonight.
  3. Francisco Lindor. Lindor has been one of the best players in baseball no matter if he was an All-Star or not. He is currently hitting .253/.329/.454 this season with a 124 OPS+. From 2021 to 2023, his OPS+ was 100, 125 and 122, respectively. As he goes in the second half of the season, the Mets will as well! Will he have a second-consecutive 30-30 season? He currently has 17 homers and 18 stolen bases, meaning one hot streak can put this milestone right within reach.

Let’s go Mets!
