The Betting Market for the 2024 Home Run Derby

0 2

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is making a fifth consecutive appearance in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby Monday. He is a two-time champion, winning the competition in 2019 and 2021. Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. is the only player to win the Home Run Derby three times. Can Alonso equal that with a title tonight? Watch him take on the competition at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Best Value Pick for Home Run Derby

For me, it has to be Adolis García at +500. The two-time All-Star is having a rough season, slashing .211/.277/.405/.682. To his credit, he still has 17 home runs in 91 games. In recent years, players who are in their home ballpark for the Home Run Derby have done well. Todd Frazier won it as a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 2015 and Bryce Harper won it as a member of the Washington Nationals in 2019. At that time, Frazier was the first person to complete that feat since Ryne Sandberg won the derby at Wrigley Field in 1990.

In a season that has been so difficult for him, this could serve as an opportunity to turn things around for García. The crowd will be on his side. While his overall numbers aren’t great, García is still hitting for power. If he can pace himself, I expect him to go on a run. He won’t go in as one of the favorites, but García has more of the power and the swing to win this year’s Home Run Derby.
