Pete Alonso: ‘I Don’t Want To Get Traded’

0 2

The New York Mets enter the All-Star Break in a very different place from where many believed they would be after the season’s first two months. The Mets looked to be sure-fire sellers, but after getting hot in June and July, the team now finds itself as potential buyers. The question of the hour remains on what the status of Pete Alonso is. Alonso will participate in the 2024 Home Run Derby on Monday night. During his media availability on Monday, he reiterated that he doesn’t want to be traded and wants to stay a New York Met.

He said: “I’d love to stay and don’t want to get traded. I love [New York]. It’s home.” Alonso also talked about his experience playing in the Mets organization since he was 20 and how happy and proud he is to be a Met.

The Mets currently sit in the third spot in the Wild Card. It’s a feat many didn’t think was possible back in May. After the Home Run Derby, Alonso will play his fourth All-Star Game on Tuesday night. So far in his contract year, Alonso is slashing .240/.319/.454. In addition, he’s hit 19 home runs, 21 doubles, and 51 RBIs. He has a 1.1 FWAR and an OPS+ of 121.

Teams like the Chicago Cubs have been interested in the first baseman. Recently, the Houston Astros called the Mets about Alonso’s trade status. If the Mets don’t struggle out of the break, Alonso could finish the season as a Met, helping them push for the playoffs. It’ll be up to David Stearns to make the call when they get to the deadline.
