0 4

The Mets (42-41) brought down the Nationals (39-46) with a rallying 7-2 victory on Tuesday evening on the road. A five-run 10th inning lifted the club to its second consecutive extra-innings win. With 11 hits in the game, the Mets have now triumphed over the Nationals in all five meetings this year, climbing back above the .500 mark at 42-41.

Sean Manaea delivered a solid performance for New York, pitching seven innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits. He issued two walks and struck out five.

The Nationals struck in the third inning with an RBI double from Jacob Young. They added another run in the fifth when Manaea walked Young, Lane Thomas reached on a fielding error, and Harold Ramirez grounded out to drive in Young, making it 2-0.

The Mets got on the board in the sixth inning with a solo home run by Francisco Lindor. Lindor came through again in the eighth with his 25th double of the year, followed by an RBI single from Brandon Nimmo, his 51st of the season, to even the score at 2-2. Nimmo, who sat out Monday and the start of today after fainting and hitting his head in his hotel room, replaced Harrison Bader, who crashed into the right-center wall in the middle of the game.

In the tenth inning, the Mets rallied to score five runs. Jose Iglesias led off with an RBI double, scoring the ghost runner. With two outs, Brandon Nimmo hit an RBI double, Mark Vientos followed with an RBI single, and Pete Alonso capped the inning with a two-run bomb, his 18th of the season, securing a 7-2 final score.

Jose Butto (2-3) earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit and one walk while recording a strikeout. Dedniel Núñez closed out the game in the tenth with a 1-2-3 inning, including a strikeout.
