Six Mets Prospects Appear in MLB Pipeline Top 100

0 1

MLB Pipeline has released an updated Top 100 prospect list, that features six rising stars in the New York Mets farm system with loads of potential heading into the second half of the year.

31. Jett Williams

Despite having wrist surgery that has sidelined Williams since April, he is the highest ranked Met on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects. Williams was drafted by the Amazins in the 2022 MLB Draft 14th overall out of Rockwall-Heath High School in Texas. He struggled in April due to wrist soreness, but in 2023 hit 13 home runs, drove in 55, and walked 104 times in 410 at bats between three different teams. He’s expected to return in August at the earliest, and he’s said he’ll like join the Arizona Fall League to make up at-bats.

39. Christian Scott

Prior to the London Series against the Phillies, the Mets optioned Scott to Triple-A Syracuse and since then has jumped 14 spots (53 to 39) in the Top 100. The 2022 5th round pick has posted a 2.12 ERA with 19 strikeouts over 17 innings pitched in Triple-A and before that had five starts with the Mets striking out 25 over 27.2 innings with an ERA of 3.90.

With the team having to play 14 straight games in a row prior to the All-Star break, Scott will rejoin the team in the Nation’s Capital to face off against the Nationals on Wednesday. He’s the team’s best pitching prospect and will likely graduate from the Pipeline list by the end of the season.

40. Drew Gilbert

Much like Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert has been dealing with an injury since the beginning of April. Prior to injuring his hamstring, it was speculated that Gilbert could see big league playing time as early as this season, but soon derailed after missing significant time. The Mets acquired Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford (72) prior to the 2023 trade deadline from the Houston Astros, which sent veteran pitcher Justin Verlander back to Houston. In 2023, Gilbert hit 18 home runs, driving in 59 batters while hitting .289 and a .868 OPS.

72. Ryan Clifford

The lefty slugger has not been able to show consistency at the plate this year but has landed at No. 72 on the Top 100 list.

Offensively, Clifford has a career OPS of .824 with 36 home runs and 124 RBIs over the course of three seasons. This year with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies he has nine home runs and 23 RBIs with an OPS of .817. His power picked up when he left Brooklyn and joined Binghamton, but his stellar eye at the plate has been consistent across levels.

93. Luisangel Acuña

Acquired from the Rangers in the deal that sent Max Scherzer to Texas, the speedster has recorded 26 stolen bases in 76 games this year for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets. Acuña has been shredding the mirror leagues in stolen bases with 184 half way through his 5th season. He has managed to drive in 244 batters while hitting .285 over his career with 39 home runs. Acuña is not far off from joining the Mets shortly, but the question remains whether that is a decision for this season or next year.

98. Brandon Sproat

The 23-year-old right handed pitcher has officially cracked the Top 100 list. Sproat was drafted by the Mets in 2023 in the second round and has had an incredible start to the 2024 season. In his 13 starts this year he has a record of 5-1 with an ERA of 1.61 while striking out 76 over 67 innings. Sproat started the year with the Brooklyn Cyclones, but since being promoted to the Double-A Rumble Ponies has posted a 1.94 ERA in three starts striking out 43, with a 0.89 WHIP. Another big time arm in the Mets minor league system will look to make major strides heading into the second half of the season.

He’ll be the Mets’ representative in the Futures Game at the All-Star break.
