Kyle Manzardo optioned to AAA
morning N&N for June 19
Guardians fans were an angry bunch yesterday. First, Kyle Manzardo was optioned to AAA. Additionally, because yesterday was Tuesday, Triston McKenzie was the Cleveland starting pitcher. McKenzie has been much better than he’s been given credit for this season, but his start last night was quite bad.
Despite hitting like a mixture of Abe Almonte and Billy Hamilton (So many doubles! Not many homers! So many fly balls!), Manzardo is a fan favorite. But somebody needed to be sent down when Jose Ramirez was activated from the Daddy List, and Kyle it was.
The pitchforks stayed out because the Guardians did not play very well last night. They loaded the bases with 0 outs in the 2nd and scored only once to make the score 1-0. It was downhill from there.
McKenzie walked the leadoff batter in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. in the 3rd, it finally hurt him. A 2-run homer made it 2-1 Seattle. This Mariner offense strikes out more than any other in the AL, but McKenzie whiffed nobody. He did not get out of the aforementioned 3rd inning.
Even given what I just told you, the Guardians had a million chances to tie or even win this game. But a couple runs late were not enough and they lost 8-5.
