Mets Win Seventh Straight With 7-6 Rally Over Rangers

0 10

The Grimace streak continues as the Mets (35-37) brought home a 7-6 comeback win over the Rangers on Tuesday evening in Arlington for their seventh-straight win.

Despite Luis Severino allowing six runs, the Mets’ offense rallied for the victory, collecting ten hits in the process. Francisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos led the charge with three hits each—and the pair remains hot, combining for 12 hits and five RBIs in the last two games. The Mets have now won seven in a row and 11 of their last 13 games, improving to just two games under .500 after bottoming out at 11 games under.

The Mets got on the board first when Mark Vientos launched a solo home run in the second inning, his sixth of the year. The Rangers responded in the third, tying the game at 1-1 as Ezequiel Duran singled, Marcus Semien walked, advanced on a wild pitch, and Corey Seager drove in a run with a groundout.

New York went back on top in the fifth inning. Vientos and Alvarez singled to start the inning, and Harrison Bader’s groundout brought home the go-ahead run, making it 2-1.

Texas quickly responded with a five-run burst in the home half of the fifth. Severino allowed back-to-back hits to start the inning, and Corey Seager’s RBI single and Josh Smith’s three-run homer put the Rangers ahead. Wyatt Langford added a solo homer, extending Texas’ lead to 6-2.

Despite being down four, the Mets continued to chip away at the deficit. Brandon Nimmo hit a solo home run in the sixth, narrowing the gap to 6-3. In the seventh, Vientos and Alvarez singled again, DJ Stewart walked, and Francisco Lindor’s fielder’s choice scored a run, cutting the Rangers’ lead to 6-4.

New York tied the game in the eighth inning. Pete Alonso and Starling Marte singled, and Alvarez delivered a clutch two-run double with two outs, bringing the score to 6-6.

In the ninth, the Mets completed the rally to solidify the win. Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk, J.D. Martinez reached on catcher’s interference, and Pete Alonso’s double drove in the go-ahead run, making it 7-6, good guys.

Jake Diekman, Reed Garrett, and Edwin Diaz shut down the Rangers in relief, combining for two and 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. Garrett (7-2) earned the win, and Diaz secured his seventh save of the season.

This team is clicking on all cylinders.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Francisco Alvarez earns Tuesday’s honor with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate, with a double and two RBI. He had his second straight three-hit game, and continues to mash in his return from a stint on the injured list.
