Happy Father’s Day, here’s a blowout loss!

That’s so White Sox! The team lost 12-5 today after a rough start from Drew Thorpe in a game that got out of hand quickly. Let’s take a look back.

Three runs came for the Serpents in the bottom of the first inning as one thing led to another. Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte reached base to start the inning and Joc Pederson had a double to score both runs, but was thrown out at third. Christian Walker followed with a solo home run.

The South Siders attempted to fight back in the top of the third inning when Danny Mendick and Tommy Pham reached base, and Andrew Vaughn had an RBI groundout to score a run.

The Dbacks added one more in the bottom of the inning, and really started to pile on in the bottom of the fourth. Back-to-back walks and single loaded the bases for Thorpe with no outs and Marte had a sacrifice fly to score a run. Martín Maldonado had a catchers interference error, allowing Pederson to reach.

That would be the end of the day for Thorpe, who would leave them loaded for Chad Kuhl.

Anytime we leave the bases loaded for a bullpen pitcher it usually doesn’t go well, and that’s exactly what happened. Walker had a two-run double immediately following the pitching change, and Jake McCarthy added another with a sacrifice fly. A wild pitch scored Walker, and another wild pitch scored another run to make it a 10-1 lead now.

Kuhl stayed in the game all the way to the sixth inning where he gave up two more runs to make it a 12-1 ballgame.

Not that it mattered, but Pham had a singled in the seventh inning to plate a run, and the team added three more in the top of the ninth after singles from Vaughn and Oscar Colás.

Overall a 12-5 loss is still bad, and I don’t necessarily blame it on Thorpe. If anyone, Kuhl’s 13.50 ERA should be a good representation of what this bullpen is like.

Luckily for us we have an off day tomorrow, so we don’t need to watch a 19-54 team. We’re so close to that 20 win mark though in mid June!

Happy Father’s Day to my dad specifically who has always matched my level of crazy when it comes to this team. For example, last night we both stayed up on vacation (Eastern Time) to watch our 19-54 team instead of just going to bed. We both fell asleep in the living room because it was so late, but no matter what it seems like we cannot miss a game.

The team ends the West Coast road trip with two wins and will go home to face the Houston Astros starting on Tuesday. Aside from that, hope everyone had a great Father’s Day and did something other than watching this game!
