MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Atlanta Braves

four home runs power the Braves to blowout victory

The Rays fell to the Braves on Saturday 9-2, dropping their record to 33-38 on the season. Ryan Pepiot was given the loss in this one, giving up five runs in 4 23 innings, while Braves starter and former Ray Charlie Morton got the victory going six innings with just one earned run and three hits.

Home runs were the story of this game, with Atlanta hitting four of them to power their way to a blowout victory at home. The first of which came in the fifth inning, a go-ahead blast from Jarred Kelenic to put the Braves up 2-1.

It didn’t take long for home run number two for Atlanta, with Marcell Ozuna crushing a 423 foot bomb to centerfield, his 20th of the season to put the Braves up 4-1.

That wouldn’t be all for the fifth inning though, with Matt Olson coming up to the plate immediately after for a solo shot of his own to put the Braves up 5-1.

The Rays would not put up any valiant responses in innings six and seven, which brings us to the bottom of the seventh, where Matt Olson hits a bomb to right-center to put the Braves up 7-1, Atlanta’s fourth home run in three innings.

Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena would do his best to try and get the Rays back on track with a home run of his own, his ninth of the season, but it was too little too late.

All in all, the Rays were unable to bounce back from a disastrous fifth inning as they drop their second game to Atlanta by a final of 9-2.

With the crushing loss, the Rays have now lost three of their last four and seven of their last nine. They’ll be looking to turn things around tomorrow with one more chance to best the Braves in their stadium, first pitch set for 1:35.
