The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

  • Trea Turner (left hamstring strain)
  • Status: 10-day injured list
  • Turner was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain on May 4. He declined to reveal what grade the strain is, but said he expects to miss “six weeks or so.”
  • Turner took ground balls on the field and hit in the cage on Friday in Colorado, manager Rob Thomson said pregame. The Phillies want Turner to hit on the field and run harder on Saturday, which Thomson referred to as a “heavy day,” then run the bases in San Francisco next week. Thomson said he’s confident yet cautious with Turner, who doesn’t feel anything off with the hamstring. After the six-game roadtrip, Turner will begin to face live pitching, and then they’ll start to plot out when he could go on a rehab assignment. (Updated by Nathan Ackerman on May 24)
  • Yunior Marte (right shoulder inflammation)
  • Status: 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 1
  • Marte “felt a little something” after his scoreless appearance against the San Diego Padres on April 28, Thomson said. After the feeling went away, it really “flared up” during his appearance against the Los Angeles Angels on April 30. He wasn’t available during the final game of the Angels series, and ultimately was placed on the injured list on May 3.
  • Marte threw 18 pitches in live batting practice against Cristian Pache and Kody Clemens on Wednesday, May 22 at Citizens Bank Park. Thomson said the team has to “map out” the next steps, but he is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon. (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on May 22)

  • Luis Ortiz (right shoulder inflammation)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Ortiz has been on the injured list since March 31 with a left ankle sprain. He has progressed from that injury, even making two rehab appearances for Single-A Clearwater. However, the most recent came on April 25. That’s because he was shut down for a period with right shoulder inflammation.
  • Ortiz is throwing up to 90 feet, per Thomson. (Updated by Tim Kelly on May 15.)

  • Rafael Marchán (lower back)
  • Status: 10-day injured list
  • Thomson told the media present at Citi Field on May 14 that “there’s speculation” that Marchán’s back issue originally stemmed from the workload he had in the Venezuelan Winter League.
  • Marchán went 1-for-2 with a walk in a rehab appearance for Single-A Clearwater on May 14. (Updated by Tim Kelly on May 15)

  • Michael Rucker (right hand arterial vasospasm)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Rucker threw a bullpen session on May 14, and is set to throw another one on May 17. (Updated by Tim Kelly on May 15)

  • Dylan Covey (right shoulder strain)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Covey is still dealing with his shoulder strain, and was backed off of throwing. As he was doing some conditioning work, he also slightly pulled a hamstring. He’s currently in Philadelphia seeing the team doctors, but is expected to head back to Clearwater Friday. (Updated by Tim Kelly on May 8)
