A’s vs. Rockies game thread
Let’s make it two in a row
After snapping their losing streak in last night’s home opener, the Athletics will take the field tonight for game two, looking to get another winning streak going.
Rookie right-hander Mitch Spence is set to take the ball tonight, his second career start. On the whole Spence has a 3.90 ERA in 12 games so far. The Rule 5 draft pick is coming off that first start though and it wasn’t bad. Spence allowed just one run on five hits over 4 2⁄3 innings in a loss to the Kansas City Royals. That was enough to earn him another start, which comes tonight against the Rockies. We’ll be hoping to see more length out of the rookie right-hander tonight in start #2.
Here’s the Oakland lineup that’ll be backing Spence up tonight:

Not much different from yesterday’s lineup compared to today, enough though they’ll be facing a different handed pitcher today in lefty Austin Gomber. JD Davis takes over at first for Tyler Soderstrom, while Tyler Nevin gets in there in place of Seth Brown.
Speaking of Gomber, the former top prospect for the Cardinals is finally having a breakthrough season in his sixth season. One of the main return pieces for Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, Gomber struggled hard over his first three seasons with Colorado. Here in 2024 though the 30-year old Gomber is putting it together as he sports a 3.02 ERA over his first nine starts, tied for 11th in the NL in the category. The A’s might have a challenge tonight.
