Rockies vs. A’s game thread

Back to Oakland can hopefully mean back to the win column

The A’s haven’t won a baseball game in ten days and three states and are now in last place in the American League West after being in third just a week ago. Thankfully tonight they’ll make their much-needed return back to the Coliseum after a day off to start a six game home stand, and the Colorado Rockies are in town first.

Good evening Athletics Nation and happy Tuesday.

While the A’s have lost eight games in a row they catch the Rockies on a three-game skid themselves after being swept this past weekend across the Bay Bridge against the Giants. In those three games the Rockies staff surrendered 28 runs. In their previous seven game winning streak heading into San Francisco, the Rockies held their opponents to 14 runs total.

And speaking of pitching, the A’s will hand the ball to righty veteran Aaron Brooks in hopes of turning their luck around. Brooks gave a fearless seven inning effort in his first and lone start of the season last Wednesday giving up just three earned runs to the dangerous Houston Astros. It was also his first MLB start since 2019.

Here’s the lineup that Mark Kotsay will work behind Brooks tonight:

On the Rockies pitching side, they’ll hand the ball to Cal Quantrill. Quantrill, the former eighth overall pick from Stanford who had some strong days back with the Cleveland Guardians is putting together another solid 2024 quietly.

After a couple rocky starts to begin his season, Quantrill has pieced together an impressive three-start stretch going 19.2 innings allowing just two runs and striking out 19 — good for a 0.92 ERA. He leads the 15-31 Rockies in wins, starts, and innings pitched so far in 2024.

Below is the lineup that will support Quantrill tonight. Despite the leisurely start, the always offensive-minded Rockies have a few guys to be feared at the dish including Ryan McMahon, Elias Diaz and Ezequiel Tovar. Tovar is 10 for his last 31 and is proving to be all the worth the extension he signed before this season.

It’s been a rough patch for the A’s, but it’s almost as if the baseball gods were listening and decided to send them a layup at home in the Rockies. It’s time to get back in the win column, and the vibes will be different back at home tonight. At least I hope so.

Catch you all soon!
