According to Tim Healey of  Newsday, left-handed reliever Brooks Raley will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery. He’ll undergo the surgery next week.

It’s brutal blow for the Mets pitching staff, as Raley was off to a great start for the bullpen. The San Antonio native appeared out of the pen eight times, striking out nine and not allowing a run.

Raley joined the Mets in a trade from Tampa Bay ahead of the 2023 season. In his first year with the Mets, the lefty tossed 54.2 innings with a 2.80 ERA. He’s set to be a free agent after this season.

President of baseball operations David Sterns has had his hands full bringing in fresh arms out of the bullpen this season. With Raley officially done for the season and Edwin Díaz taking an absence from his usual closer role, the bullpen is in flux.

Fellow lefty Nate Lavendar also underwent Tommy John this year, and the Mets have used Josh Walker and Jake Diekman as primary lefties out of the pen.
