Charlotte Knights

Record 4-2 (last week), 19-25 (overall)

Knights Player of the Week

Zach DeLoach 6-for-17, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 BB, 6 K

Jonathan Cannon 5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K
Jake Woodford 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K

The Knights scored 38 runs in six games, an average of 6.3 per game to pave the way for Charlotte’s 4-2 week, and there are a few players to thank for that. However, infielder Wilmer Difo takes the cake in terms of the Knights Player of the Week distinction. Difo had a .545/.545/.955 slash line, as he could not be stopped at the plate. Difo, 32, has not appeared in the majors since 2022, but the White Sox signed him on April 13, and he has introduced himself nicely to the organization. In 18 games overall, he has a .361/.391/.525 slash line for the Knights.

Chuckie Robinson recovered from his rough week to begin May, and he nearly took home the crown with his excellent performance this week. Oscar Colás and Zach DeLoach also caught fire to contribute to the Knights offense’s huge week.

Jake Eder 5 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 7 K
Mason Adams 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K

After uncharacteristically going 1-5 last week, the Barons got back on track this week, and they are 10 games better than .500 once again. Brooks Baldwin has been a spark plug all season, but somehow he’s avoided Player of the Week honors until now. Baldwin was an on-base machine, posting a .316/.500/.474 slash line while stealing four bases without getting caught.

As usual, the pitching staff had some strong performances, too. Drew Thorpe and Mason Adams both took steps in the right direction, again. In addition, Jairo Iriarte’s ERA during his two starts (4.61) was not special, but his strikeout-to-walk ratio was incredible, as he struck out 24 while only issuing two walks in 13 2⁄3 innings, punctuated by a 13-K outing on Sunday.

2024 Birmingham Barons Players of the Week

Drew Thorpe (April 8-14)
Edgar Quero (April 15-21)
Ky Bush (April 22-28)
Bryan Ramos (April 29-May 5)
Mason Adams (May 6-12)
Brooks Baldwin (May 13-19)

Winston-Salem Dash

Record 4-2 (last week), 19-20 (overall)

Jacob Gonzalez 4-for-22, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 4 K
Eddie Park 7-for-24, 2B, 3 RBI, 0 BB, 3 K
Samuel Zavala 2-for-11, HR, 2 RBI, 9 BB, 6 K
Wes Kath 1-for-16, HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 8 K
Bryce Willits 10-for-25, HR, 2 2B, 7 RBI, 1 BB, 4 K

Noah Schultz 4 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K

Juan Carela 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 6 K
Peyton Pallette 4 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 K

The Dash had another nice week to inch closer to .500, as they are now only one game worse than that mark. Shawn Goosenberg led the way for the offense, posting a 1.164 OPS during the week. Goosenberg has picked up the pace in May, now slashing .290/.348/.516 this month after an unremarkable April.

Riley Gowens had a dominant, 11-strikeout performance on the mound to sniff Player of the Week territory, and Bryce Willits did not trail Goosenberg by much at the plate. Outfielder Samuel Zavala had a highly unusual slash line (.182/.550/.455) that resulted in a weekly OPS better than 1.000 despite a batting average not reaching .200.

2024 Winston-Salem Dash Players of the Week

Jacob Gonzalez (April 8-14)
Juan Carela (April 15-21)
Manuel Veloz (April 22-28)
Jacob Gonzalez (April 29-May 5)

Jake Peppers 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K
Grant Taylor 4 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K

After hanging right near .500 for the past couple of weeks, the Cannon Ballers distanced themselves from average with a 5-1 week that launched them into first place. Who deserves the most credit for this hot streak? Stop me if you have heard this before, but Ryan Galanie is the winner of the Cannon Ballers Player of the Week award. Galanie’s .333/.481/.714 slash line includes two homers, a triple, and five walks, as pitchers did not want much to do with him. Given the way he has swung the bat lately, I cannot blame them.

Speaking of pitchers, Drew McDaniel had a phenomenal start, pitching seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts and no walks. If not for the monster week by Galanie, he would have gotten the honor.
