Spence takes the mound for his first MLB start

After a rough series in Houston, the Oakland Athletics are off to Kansas City to face the Royals for a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. The surprising Royals are 26-19 and currently in second place in the American League Central Division just 1.5 games behind Cleveland. The A’s current five-game losing streak has dropped them to 19-27 and looking up at Houston for the first time this season.

Mark Kotsay will send righthanded hurler Mitch Spence to the mound to start today’s game. This will be Spence’s first major league start and his twelfth appearance overall. He enters today with a 3-1 record and 4.26 ERA. Spence’s longest outing was 4.2 innings against the Miami Marlins on May 5.

Lefty Cole Ragans will take the mound for Matt Quatraro’s Royals. The 26-year-old has a 2-3 record with an ERA of 4.22 in his nine 2024 starts. He’ll face this Athletics lineup tonight:

We don’t know how deep into the game Spence will go, but he’ll face this lineup for the Royals tonight:
