Cup of Coffee: Top four prospects in the system combine for 10 hits

5/15 Cup of Coffee: It was a phenomenal night for the top four prospects in the system. Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Kyle Teel (pictured), and Miguel Bleis each picked up multiple hits, leading Portland and Salem to wins. The WooSox offense was also great, as Enmanuel Valdez homered again.

Mark Contreras led the offense by going 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, and three RBI. Bobby Dalbec and Nathan Hickey each had two hits as well, with Dalbec doubling and scoring twice, while Hickey singled twice, walked, and scored two runs. Enmanuel Valdez ripped another home run, his fourth of the year for the WooSox. Jason Alexander pitched well, surrendering three runs over five innings of work on the way to his second win. The right-hander struck out six, the third time he's reached that mark this year in eight starts. Chase Shugart and Lucas Luetge were each very good out of the bullpen, as they each tossed two innings and struck out four without a walk. Shugart allowed one run.

The Sea Dogs won this slugfest thanks in large part to the efforts of their big three at the top of the order. Roman Anthony went 2 for 5 with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning. Marcelo Mayer had a 3-for-5 night that included two more doubles, a stolen base, and two runs scored. The doubles machine is now hitting .302 with 15 doubles this year. Kyle Teel reached base four times with two singles, a double, a walk, and four runs scored. Mickey Gasper swatted his third homer of the year as well, and Matthew Lugo added an RBI double. Nick Yorke singled, walked, and stole a base. Hunter Dobbins picked up the win despite allowing six earned runs over five innings. He punched out five and walked three. Robert Kwiatkowski gave up three runs (one earned) over two innings, and Felix Cepeda picked up save number six with three strikeouts over the final two innings.

Kristian Campbell blasted another home run, his sixth of the season. He also singled and walked, raising his OPS to .985 on the year. Allan Castro and Tyler Miller each singled three times, with Castro scoring twice and Miller driving in a pair. Luis Ravelo went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, and Ronald Rosario reached three times with two singles and a free pass. Despite the 14 hits, the Drive went just 2 for 17 with runners in scoring position. Hayden Mullins had the strikeout pitch working, fanning seven over four innings. He did take the loss, allowing four runs. Isaac Stebens and Cade Feeney each allowed three runs in relief, but Stebens struck out four in two innings and Feeney punched out three in a pair of innings as well.

Two Sox pitchers combined for the shutout in this one, starting with Luis Cohen. The 20-year old righty threw five innings and allowed just three hits and one walk. He punched out three and grabbed his second win of the year. Michael Sansone notched a four-inning save in a dominant effort. The lefty struck out seven and only allowed one walk and one hit. His ERA is now 0.69 with a 0.69 WHIP in 13 innings this season. Number four prospect Miguel Bleis had himself a huge afternoon at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, a walk, and two stolen bases. He now has 11 extra-base hits and 12 stolen bases so far this year. Nelly Taylor reached three times as well, going 1 for 2 with a single and two walks. He also swiped his seventh bag of the year. Marvin Alcantara added a single, a stolen base, and two runs scored.

Kleyver Salazar broke a tie in the fifth inning with a two-run double, his second two-bagger of the year. He also walked and drove in another run. Franklin Arias and Andruw Musett each singled and doubled, while Franyer Noria added a pair of singles and an RBI. Muset is now hitting .455 with a 1.071 OPS in seven games this year. Nicolas De La Cruz started on the mound and tossed a couple of scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Denis Reguillo allowed just one unearned run in his 1 2/3 innings of relief. Yeferson Vargas threw the final three innings and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts.

Player of the Day: With a ton of guys to pick from, Kyle Teel emerges. The catcher reached base four times for the first time this season. The left-handed hitter has been hot so far in May, hitting .324/.410/.500 in the month with four extra-base hits and six RBI.
