News and Notes: Guardians Beat White Sox, Of Course. What Else Would You Expect?

News and Notes for Monday, May 13th, 2024

The Guardians shut out the White Sox 7-0 on Sunday, salvaging a game from a four-game series vs. one of the three worst teams in MLB in 2024.

Andres Gimenez and David Fry homered and Estevan Florial had two hits, including a double, for an offense finally coming to life. Kinda seems like it's time to give Fry some run as an everyday player. Meanwhile, José Ramírez struck out three times, depressingly for my "He's back" agenda. And Gabriel Arias and Brayan Rocchio continue to flirt with wRC+'s of 60-70. Fun.

Logan Allen had a good game against a, reminder, bad team. I am looking for him to find a way consistently to give the Guardians a chance to win from here. The only positive pitching-wise from this series is that it provided a needed breather for the team's high-leverage arms.

Forty games into the season, the Guardians are in first place by half a game in the Central. Hopefully, they can finish the road trip well in Texas and come home and take care of business against a Twins team that has definitely found their stride. Wouldn't mind if they ended the road trip leaving Ramon Laureano in Texas, given his 60 wRC+ and absolutely cratering value vs fastballs.

The Guardians released their City Connect jerseys officially, to general approval, at least as I've seen on social media.
