Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing mothers out there. The biggest gift that you could give them today is a Chicago White Sox four-game sweep over the Cleveland Guardians, because that’s what every mom wants, right?
Well maybe not ... maybe just us. Either way, this series has been fun to watch, and quite surprising. That team on the South Side seems to have turned it around recently, going 6-4 in their last 10 games and stringing together a four-game win streak. They can continue it today on a beautiful day, with Michael Soroka and Logan Allen going head-to-head on the pitching mound.
Neither pitcher has the best ERA, as Allen is at 6.41 and Soroka 6.34. At 0-4, Soroka has yet to get a White Sox win. His outings have been mediocre at best, and kind of short. Last week against the Tampa Bay Rays, Soroka went five innings with three hits, three runs, four walks, and four strikeouts. Acquired in the Aaron Bummer trade with the Atlanta Braves, Soroka hasn’t been as advertised just yet, but let’s be real: Getting five players for a reliever in the first place was a win. Either way let’s see what Soroka can do toda,y and maybe he can be the one to tame José Ramírez and Josh Naylor.
Last time we faced the lefty Allen, we pretty much shocked everyone. In early April in the midst of a terrible start, our lineup put up five runs against him in the first inning, and we would go onto win that game. Now that we’ve seen him, (maybe) we expect some decent offense.
Andrew Vaughn hasn’t come up much this year when it comes to being a trusted player in our lineup, but he has done significantly well against Allen. In 14 PA he’s slashing .500/.500/.857 with a home run.

Tommy Pham will lead it off, Andrew Benintendi will get the day off, and Korey Lee is actually in the lineup.
