O’s Ride An Unlikely Power Source To Win

0 8

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 7-2 on Thursday afternoon. Among the Orioles eight hits on the day were three homeruns, one, not surprisingly by Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI). The other two homeruns may have been head-scratchers to some, however.

Jorge Mateo (1 for 2, HR, R, 2 RBI, HBP) hit a homerun 425 ft. over the “Great Wall of Baltimore” in left field in the fourth inning and three batters later Ryan McKenna (1 for 2, HR, R, RBI) hit a 403 ft. shot to center field. Mateo’s homer was the first he has hit over the outfield fences in about a year and McKenna’s was his first of the season.

Jordan Westburg went 2 for 4 with a triple, one run scored and 2 RBI.

Adley Rutschman went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Anthony Santander went 1 for 3 with a run scored and was hit by a pitch.

Kyle Bradish took the mound in his return from the IL to make his first start of 2024. Bradish, who was not involved in the decision, allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walked 2, struck out 5 and hit a batter over 4.2 innings, throwing 84 pitches (51 strikes) in doing so.

Despite allowing a Gleyber Torres homerun in the sixth inning, Keegan Akin (1-0) was credited with the win for his 1.1 IP, R, H, BB effort.

Jacob Webb continued his recent run of solid relief appearances, striking out 3 over 1.1 innings.

Cionel Perez closed out the game by pitching the ninth and striking out 2 in 1.0 inning.
