Men's Wrestling
The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling team competed in the Missouri Valley Invite on Friday and Saturday. The Spires had two top-ten finishes on the weekend. Brody Gee had the highest finish of any Spire on Saturday, he took fifth place and went 8-2 on the weekend. After a loss in the second round, Gee won six straight matches, two of which came by fall. In the 149-weight class, Austin Almaguer had two wins on Friday but lost by decision (6-2) early on Saturday and had to battle his way through the blood rounds. After that, Almaguer made it to the seventh-place match but was unable to finish the match and ended the tournament in ninth place. Gabe Chesbro also had to work his way through the blood round as well on Saturday. Chesbro was able to win two straight matches, one by fall, but lost just before the fifth and seventh-place matches. The Spires will be on the road for a team dual against the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Men's Basketball
The Men's Basketball team went 0-2 this past week as they lost to Tabor College (69-52) and York University (85-78). On Wednesday, Junior Forward, Deshaud St. Martin was one rebound away from a double-double as he scored 22 points and had nine rebounds. The Spires shot 43% from the field while Tabor shot 46% as the Blue Jays pulled away with a 69-52 win. On Saturday against York, Joey Schultz recorded a double-double as he scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds while St. Martin added 25 points of his own, a career high. That unfortunately was not enough to advance past the Panther's as York prevailed, 85-78. The Spires are now 5-14 overall and 1-12 in the KCAC. Saint Mary will travel to take on Southwestern College at 7 p.m. on Monday night in Winfield, Kansas.

Women's Basketball
Women's Basketball went 1-1 this past week with a loss to Tabor College (61-38) and a win over York University (74-45). Against Tabor, Paige Pendley scored a team high nine points and had four rebounds as the Blue Jays stout defense was able to hold the Spires to 34% shooting from the field. Saint Mary then rebounded with a stellar performance over York University on Saturday night. USM overall shot 44% from the field while great defensive play held the Panther's to 25% shooting on the day to earn the 74-45 win. Demi Aamold led the way for the Spires offensively, scoring 13 points while Pendley recorded eight rebounds. The Spires are now 11-8 overall and 7-6 in conference play. Up next, Saint Mary will travel to play against Southwestern College at 5 p.m. on Monday night in Winfield, Kansas.

Women's Basketball Uses Big Third Quarter to Get Win Over York
Swimming
The University of Saint Mary Men's and Women's Swim teams traveled to compete against Sterling College on Friday, with both teams winning. The men won 148-47, and the women won 109-74, wrapping up the regular season. The men's team had seven first place finishes on the day including event like the 200yd medley relay, the 200yd individual medley, and the 1000yd freestyle. The women's performance was highlighted by Ayla Pierce who broke the school record in the 1000yd freestyle. Olivia Ringle took first in the 500yd freestyle and Sydney Jones swam a time of 1:05.94 which won the 100yd backstroke. Saint Mary will have two weeks to refine details and prepare for the KCAC Championships that begin on February 2nd.

Spires Sweep Against Sterling to Finish Regular Season
Indoor Track and Field
Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed at the Northwest Missouri Open on Saturday and had top-three finishes in ten total events. Torrey White took third with a time of 49.06 in the 400m dash earning a B standard. Emad Bashir-Mohammed recorded a time of 14:53.83 in the 5000m race, coming in first and achieving an NAIA B standard. In that same race, Brig Merritt (15:14.06) and Dylan Stoltzfus (15:22.17) finished right behind Bashir-Mohammed in second and third. To end the day, Wlices Ramos, Mark Noel, Jaylen Townes, and White ran a 3:21.42 and finished second in the 4x400m relay. Riley Hiebert had the first A time in the 3000m race, finishing with a time of 10:11.77 finishing second overall. Saint Mary had a two, three, and four finish in the 5000m race. Alyssa Armendariz (17:27.12) took second and achieved an A standard time, Reagan Hiebert (17:48.31) came in third and also had an A standard time, and Josie Tyrrell (18:15.46) finished fourth with a B standard time. Carissa Martin had a podium appearance in the triple jump event with a mark of 10.26m. Both teams will be at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kansas, on February 3rd.
