Canada beat South Africa 11-0 behind Sebastian’s dominant pitching

<p>Canada’s dominant pitching and well-balanced offensive performances secured a convincing <a href="https://www.wbsc.org/en/events/2022-mens-softball-world-cup/schedule-and-results/box-score/103041"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">11-0 win</span></strong></a> over South Africa on Monday in the <a href="https://www.wbsc.org/en/events/2022-mens-softball-world-cup/home"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">XVII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup</span></strong></a> at Rosedale Park.</p>

<p>Ty Sebastian earned the complete five-inning game win as he retired 12 of 15 hitters with strikeouts, while the batters combined for a total of nine hits and nine RBIs, including Justin Laskowski’s two runs and three RBIs. </p>

<p>Quinten Bruce put the first run on the board for Canada, starting with a triple to left field leading to the run on a wild pitch.</p>

<p>It did not take long for Colin Walsh to score in the second inning as he collected his second homer of the tournament to deep left field. Cory Jones singled up the middle leading to another run, then Tyler Pauli scored the third run in the inning off a single by Shane Boland, who eventually scored the fourth run.</p>

<p>South Africa made a pitching change, putting in Grant Olivier for Manhlane Manaka, to face Walsh who took a full-count walk and then moved to a scoring position after Jones’ fly out ball, completing the run on a Ryan Boland double to right centre.</p>

<p>After reaching third base on a wild pitch, Boland scored a run to close the third inning with a 7-0 lead.</p>

<p>South Africa managed to keep the Canadians scoreless in the fourth and made their second pitching change in the fifth, relieving Olivier with Lucas Lamola. </p>

<p>However, the Canadians remained forceful on offence as Pauli and Boland scored runs after Laskowski hit a double down the right field line, before Bruce and Laskowski finished off the two runs off Derek Mayson’s single to deep left field.</p>
