[Cross Country] Horning captures KCAC Men's Cross Country individual championship; Giles ...
Winfield, Kan. – Friends University senior runner Logan Horning (SR/Ormond Beach, Fla. ) paced the field at Saturday's (Nov. 5) KCAC Championship meet with a time of 24:45.06 to win the men's conference title in Winfield, Kan. Also, Caroline Giles (SR/Minneapolis, Kan. ) came in fourth overall for the Women's Falcons to earn first-team All-KCAC honors with a PR of 18:29.26.
A four-time KCAC Men's Runner of the Week, Horning now has the league's top trophy in his case to cap off a historic season.
"Logan demonstrated his true dominance over the conference on Saturday with one of the gutsiest races I've seen in a long time," said Friends cross country head coach Sam Lloyd-Perks. "His work ethic and discipline this season has been outstanding and it was great to see him rewarded with an excellent performance."
"Caroline put in a brilliant performance going head-to-head with some of the best girls in the nation to finish fourth with a new personal record. This was well-deserved and once again she displayed her ability to leave everything else on the course."
Josiah Bolton (SR/Ellsworth, Kan. ) also finished 16th for the Falcons with a PR of 26:13.25 to earn a spot at the NAIA National Championship Meet and help the Falcon Men record a top-five finish as a team.
"Josiah's story is one of both courage and redemption, to comeback from a rough racing patch to place 16th, qualify for nationals and also set a new lifetime best in the process was incredible to see!" said Lloyd-Perks.
Rebekah Choriego (FR/Towanda, Kan. ) finished 25th with a time of 20:25.03 to help the Falcon Women finish sixth overall.
"I think it's important to highlight both the Men's and Women's team development this year with every single one of them setting personal bests and the few that didn't ran faster than they have done in a long time," said Lloyd-Perks. "This was all down to their sheer dedication and hard work this season. I'm tremendously proud of this group!"
The NAIA National Championship meet is set for Nov. 18 in Tallahassee, Fla.
