Steamers Win Seventh Straight, Dominate Suffolk At Home

0 0

Edenton, NC – The Edenton Steamers extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games. The Clams took down the Suffolk Voyagers at home 11-3 behind another well rounded game from the offense and the pitching staff. Edenton is now 8-3 at home, including five in a row at home.

The Voyagers stopped the Steamers stretch of scoring first, and got on the board in the opening inning. Brian Wilson was at second with one out and went to steal third. The throw down from Case Kermode hit the helmet of Wilson and dribbled into left field, allowing Wilson to come home. Suffolk took a 1-0 lead on the wacky play.

The Steamers didn’t wait long to respond. Nate Paulsen drove in a run for the fourth consecutive game, this time with an RBI double to score Chase Bruno. Jackson Hipp followed Paulsen with an RBI groundout which brought home another run. This made it 2-1 Edenton.

The Voyagers got sloppy defensively in the inning. Kermode hit a grounder to shortstop that was bobbled by Trey Blow, and allowed Paulsen to score from third. A few hitters later, Blow made an errant throw on a grounder from Bryce Stephens that brought another run home. Then with runners on the corners, Stephens stole second, and on an errant throw down, Alden Cottle came home to score from third. When the dust settled, the Steamers left the first inning ahead 6-1.

The Steamers tacked on another run on another Voyagers error in the second, then Suffolk started battling back in the fourth. Ahmaad Goldson drilled an RBI double into right field to bring the Voyagers a bit closer. This made it a 7-2 ball game.

Michael Allen started and went the first four innings on the mound for Edenton. Allen allowed two hits, three walks, two runs, and struck out eight. The Steamers have won all three of Allen’s starts this season.

In the fifth, Jared Beebe came into the game to try and hold the lead. An Alden Cottle error allowed a run to score in the inning and the Voyagers to inch a bit closer. Beebe allowed no hits and walked a pair in his inning, and left the game with a 7-3 lead.

The Steamers put the game out of reach in the sixth and seventh innings. Hipp singled home Paulsen in the sixth inning to grow the lead. Tanner Thach blew the roof off Historic Hicks Field with a three-run home run that grew the lead to 11-3 Edenton.

Chris Morris came into the game in relief on the mound for Beebe. Morris pitched three shutout innings, allowing two hits, two walks, zero runs, and striking out five. Gavin Mangus came into the game in the ninth to try and wrap things up for Edenton. Mangus threw a scoreless inning to close things out and finish off the victory.

The Steamers have put double digit runs on the board in five of the seven games during the winning streak. Edenton is in action again tomorrow night, traveling over to Tarboro where the winner will take over first place in the PCL. First pitch will be at 7:00 pm.
