The Philadelphia Phillies announced Thursday evening that franchise icon Jimmy Rollins has been named a special advisor to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

In his new role, Rollins “will periodically assist the major league club in an on-field capacity and advise the front office with baseball operations decisions,” the Phillies say.

Rollins had been a special advisor to the organization since January of 2019, though this new position seemingly represents an increase in responsibilities for the former National League MVP.

The only other person who has the same role for the Phillies is the greatest player in franchise history, Mike Schmidt. Rollins, of course, passed Schmidt to become the franchise’s all-time hits leader in June of 2014.

Now 43, Rollins was a second-round draft pick by the Phillies in 1996. He would go on to spend parts of 15 seasons with the organization, winning four Gold Gloves, making three All-Star teams and helping the organization to win the 2008 World Series.
