[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis Splits in Missouri
Doane Men's Tennis traveled to Liberty, Mo., on Friday and Saturday for a pair of contests as they took on Baker University and William Jewell College. In the first match of the weekend, the Tigers defeated a short-handed Baker squad, 7-0. Doane then dropped their next match on Saturday with the Cardinals, 5-2.
Against the Wildcats, Doane received forfeit wins at 5 and 6-singles as well as 3-doubles. Jorge Chevez (SR/Panama City, Panama), Jose Purizaca (FR/Lima, Peru), and Sam Coy (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) picked up straight-set victories in singles play with Logan Bornemeier (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) winning in a third-set tie-break. Federico Infante (SO/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) teamed with Purizaca for a 6-1 win at 1-doubles and the team of Chevez and Henrique Sakoda (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 7-5 at 2-doubles.
In the WJC match, Doane was held to a pair of wins in singles play as Infante won 6-4, 6-4, at 3-singles and Sakoda won 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, at 4-singles. The Cardinals won the team point in doubles action by taking two of the three doubles matches. Chevez and Sakoda won 6-3 at 2-doubles.
