[Baseball] Lystlund Goes Combined 6-for-7 in Doubleheader Loss at Hilo

HILO, Hawai'i – The San Diego Christian College Hawks fought until the final out of each game in Saturday's doubleheader but came away empty-handed, dropping game one 2-4 and game two 4-5 to the University of Hawai'i-Hilo.

GAME 1
San Diego Christian and Hawai'i Hilo were ready for battle in game one. The two teams engaged in a great pitching clash, with the Hawks relying on freshman, Jack Schlotman and the Vulcans pitching by committee.  Schlotman continues to impress and improve with each start, today throwing seven complete innings allowing only 4 runs on 8 hits.  

The Hawks got on the board in the second inning after junior outfielder, Tre Pankratz, started the inning with a single to right field. He would work his way to third when senior centerfielder, Ryan Lystlund, belted his first of 4 hits on the day to center field. Pankratz would score a batter later on a Vulcan error. Hilo would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

In the fourth inning, a two-out triple by Lystlund would bring dividends as another Vulcan error would allow him to score. Once again, the home team would answer right back.

Lystlund started a rally in the eighth after a single sent Pankratz to third, but the team would come up short failing to plate the run.

GAME 2
Down by three runs to start the fifth inning, the Hawks put together a rally that began with an Alec Arnone leadoff single. Anthony Macchia would sacrifice bunt Arnone to second and Ryan Lystlund would drive him home with a single to left field.

Billy Strohm would continue the rally with a pinch-hit single that put Lystlund on third. A wild ball four to Symon Tabello would bring Lystlund home and allow Johnny Radomskiy to drive in Strohm with a single to centerfield on the next play.

Freshman, Davin Burroughs would provide a sacrifice fly that would plate Tabello for the fourth and final run for the Hawks.

With the Hawks leading 4-3, the Vulcans would even things up in the bottom of the fifth, however. SDCC would not be rewarded for their fortitude as the Vulcans would walk it off in the bottom of the seventh.

HAWK HIGHLIGHTS
Lystlund continued his incredible start to the season going 4-for-4 with a triple in game one and 2-for-3 in game two.

The Hawks wrap up the five-game series with the Vulcans with a rare Sunday doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 pm Pacific time.
