0 21

Doane Women's Basketball traveled north to take on the conference front-runner, Morningside, on Saturday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. The 8th-ranked Mustangs blistered the nets in the first half as they would go on for a 101-69 win over the Tigers.

Morningside shot over 65-percent in the first half, hitting 10 3-point baskets to build a 61-34 lead at the break. Alexis Spier posted 10 points in the first meeting back in November for the Mustangs. Now in the starting lineup, Spier torched the nets in the opening half as she converted 11-of-12 field goal attempts and posted 27 of her game-high 33 points.

Mak Hatcliff (FR/Beatrice, Neb.) scored 19 of her team-high 29 points in the opening half. She broke the freshman scoring record at the midway point in the 1st quarter, needing only four points entering the day to top the mark set by Trudi Veerhusen in the 1987-88 season. Hatcliff stands at 445 points on the season.

Sydney Roth (JR/Deshler, Neb.) hit 5-of-10 from behind the arc to add 15 points for the Tigers. She added a team-high three steals. Kate Jansky (JR/Milligan, Neb.) added nine points off the bench. Hatcliff led the team with nine rebounds while Boston Boucher (FR/Wood River, Neb.) finished with a team-leading three assists.

Doane will return home for a two-game weekend set as they host Jamestown on Friday, January 21, at 5 PM.
