A Year In Steve Cohen Tweets

The much maligned Twitter profile of Mets owner Steve Cohen has brought Mets fans a lot of joy and heartache.

Cohen has been more involved with fans than any owner in baseball. At times it’s led to criticism and at times he’s broken news that all Mets fans want to hear.

Now let us look back on a year of Steve Cohen’s tweets.

Jan. 7

Cohen had his mind focused on something else the day the Mets traded for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco. Not only did he secure an MVP-caliber player, but the Mets also brought back their black jerseys.

Jan. 19

Cohen’s first scandal as the owner came only a few months after buying the team. The Mets terminated general manager Jared Porter immediately after a repeated history of sexual harassment in the workplace came forward.

Jan. 29

Cohen returned his focus to the baseball team he owned and not a Twitter dispute with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy over Cohen’s investment firm’s role during the incredulous rise of GameStop stock in late January.

Mar. 26-30

The saga that had every Mets fan on the edge of their seats. Cohen used Twitter as his outlet to inform and interact with fans over the negotiations with Francisco Lindor.

Chicken parm was what Lindor ordered when he and Cohen went out to dinner to discuss the eventual record-setting extension they’d agree to.

Apr. 6

It’s official. Lindor would be a New York Met for the next decade.

Apr. 22

The offense did not get going.

May 16

They did not get through it.

June 1

The Mets went 50-64 after this tweet.

June 12

The Mets lost their next game and did not sweep.

July 6

Lol. Turns out a meteorologist’s job is much harder than anyone thought.

August 1

Cohen said the quiet part out loud as the Mets failed to sign top draft pick Kumar Rocker to a deal. This tweet by Cohen is not being used as part of the ongoing labor negotiations as evidence of owners admittance to the unfair system set up in major league baseball.

August 8

The Mets lost 3-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies. Zack Wheeler threw a complete game.

August 18

Cohen calls out his players as the Mets continue to slip further and further out of the playoff race. Some of those players (Dominic Smith, Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto, J.D. Davis) could be in a different uniform next season.

August 29

Remember the thumbs down situation?

November 24

Don’t piss off Cohen. Thanks to Steven Matz and his agent the Mets went out and immediately signed Starling Marte, Mark Canha, Eduardo Escobar, and Max Scherzer.

December 18

Cohen confirms the Mets hiring of Buck Showalter before anyone else. Reportedly he was so excited about the hiring that he released the information two days early.
