0 9

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks volleyball team continued their fine run of play in the GSAC by taking down the Vanguard University Lions 3 sets to 1 Saturday night.

The Hawks are proving they are a force to be reckoned with in the Golden State Athletic Conference. On a team full of talented players, each player has been contributing toward a team-first approach. The victories continue to come with scoring stats being spread all around.

SDCC's resilience showed in grabbing each of the first two sets of Saturday's match. In each, the Hawks would trail midway through, only to regroup and win. In set one, the Hawks came from behind with kills by an unlikely attacker, senior Arianna Velasquez. With SDCC trailing 13-14, Velasquez would spark a 7-1 run with back-to-back kills. She would then set Jessica Pinasco and Isabella Marshall up for additional scores. Then after trailing 9-11 in set two, Velasquez went on a five-point service run to give the Hawks a lead that they would not relinquish. Senior Kayli Barrera would close out the set serving the final two points that were smashed down by Anuhea Kaohi.

San Diego Christian would drop set 3 but would come storming back in the fourth. Marshall, Pinasco and freshman, Celestina Iupeli got the Hawks rolling with a series of kills to put them up 8-4. The team attack continued for San Diego Christian as the set progressed with kills coming from every attack point. Sophomore, Breanna Brooks would close out the match, serving the final two points.

The victory improves San Diego Christian's record to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the GSAC.
