Corbin Burnes Placed on 10-Day IL

The Brewers were dealt a huge blow on Thursday. They had to place Burnes on the 10-day IL, who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. They did not disclose why he was placed on the IL, but he was lit up for four earned runs over five innings in his last start. It’s possible that he was dealing with something during that outing, and of course, we also have to consider that this could be due to COVID-19. Hopefully, we will get more information on this situation moving forward. The Brewers called up Eric Lauer from the alternate training site, and he will draw the start on Thursday vs. the Dodgers.

Even with his poor start in his last outing, Burnes has pitched to a sparkling 1.53 ERA and 0.50 FIP this season. His command has been remarkable, racking up a ridiculous 49 strikeouts with zero walks through his first five starts. That’s a new record for a starting pitcher to start the year, and it trails only Kenley Jansen’s mark of 51 strikeouts and zero walks to start the 2017 season.
