[Baseball] Falcons Fall in Series Opener at Sterling
STERLING Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons dropped the series opener Friday (Mar. 26) to the Sterling College Warriors 2-1 in Sterling, Kan.
Sam Engberg (FR/Kearney, Neb. ) got the scoring started with a leadoff double in the fifth inning and came around to score later in the inning on a wild throw by the Warriors.
The Warriors tied it in the bottom of the seventh when Ike Brown homered to deep right-center.
Wesley Galloway broke the 1-1 gridlock in the bottom of the ninth with a single that drove in Matthew McElroy.
Zach Demchenko (SR/Okotoks, Alberta) shined on the mound for the Falcons pitching 8.1 innings allowing just five hits and striking out a career-high ten batters.
Max Coyt (JR/Hanford, Calif. ) went 2-for-2 for the Falcons, while Engberg finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Falcons will finish the series against Sterling tomorrow (Mar. 27) with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
