Sammy Watkins signs with Ravens

0 26

Sammy Watkins is signing a one-year $6 million contract with the Ravens. Watkins had played the last three seasons with the Chiefs, where he could never stay healthy for an entire season. His best campaign for the Chiefs came in 2019, where he played 14 games, caught 52 passes for 673 yards, and scored three times. The Ravens will be the fourth team (Bills and Rams) that Watkins has played for in eight NFL seasons.

Watkins may be a consolation prize for the Ravens as they were said to be in the running for Kenny Golladay, who signed with the Giants, and Juju Smith-Schuster, who returned to Pittsburgh. Golladay and Smith Schuster would have been significant upgrades over Watkins in the Ravens’ passing game, but Golladay received a massive payday from the Giants, and Smith-Schuster chose to take less to return to the Steelers. The draft next month is said to be loaded again at receiver, but the big three and top tight end will be long gone before the Ravens make their first selection at 27.

The Ravens will be battling with the Steelers and Browns for the AFC North title. They are currently +110 to win the AFC North, +650 to win the AFC, and +1400 to win the Super Bowl.
