Malcolm Butler Signs One-Year Deal With Arizona Cardinals

0 20

The Arizona Cardinals made a splash in the free-agent waters by signing Malcolm Butler to a one-year contract worth up to $6 million. Butler is a former Pro-Bowler and famously intercepted Russell Wilson at the goal line in Super Bowl 49.

Butler was a key cog in the Tennessee Titans’ defense last season. He ranked second on the team in tackles with 100 and tied for the team lead with four interceptions, making him the only player in the NFL to hit both thresholds.

Receivers were targeted 127 times with Butler in coverage. Butler allowed a completion percentage of 63.0% and had 14 passes defended.

Butler joins a Cardinals’ secondary that allowed the 10th fewest yards per game last season but tied for 18th in interceptions. Arizona had a gap in their depth chart to fill after electing not to re-sign Patrick Peterson.

Arizona has the longest odds to win the NFC West at +550 and is +4000 to win the Super Bowl.
