Bears Place Franchise Tag on Wide Receiver Allen Robinson II

0 20

The Chicago Bears officially placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Allen Robinson II today. The move guarantees that the Bears will have control of where he plays in the upcoming season. Chicago can either choose to retain him on their roster or perhaps look to trade the coveted receiver to another team if he agrees to sign the franchise tender.

Robinson has put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Bears. He was ranked third with 150 targets, fourth with 102 receptions, but finished with only six touchdowns — tied for 21st in the league. The former second-rounder hasn’t exactly worked with All-Pro quarterbacks in his career, and one could make the argument that the Bears have enough needs on their roster that trading Robinson for some picks and possibly salary cap relief wouldn’t be the worst idea they’ve had.

It can’t be any worse of a decision than when they traded the third overall pick, a third-rounder, fourth-rounder, and a 2018 third-round pick for MVP Mitchell Trubisky as he’s so affectionately known.

Pro Football Focus gave Robinson an 88.4 player in 2020. It was the fifth-highest score of all wide receivers, yet he only averaged 10.1 fantasy points per game. If he ever linked up with an elite quarterback, Robinson could be the missing link to propel your team to championship week in fantasy football.
