Women’s basketball falls to Lady Matadors
Cochise women’s basketball team drops season opener to the Arizona Western Lady Matadors 79-68. A second-quarter drought gave the Matadors an edge that they wouldn’t relinquish. Things got tight in the third quarter, going back and forth. Both teams combined for their highest-scoring in the fourth quarter, but ultimately Arizona Western would pull out the victory with a couple of clutch late-game threes.
“I felt like our youth got exposed today. We will continue to work hard in practice and get better,” said Head Coach Misty Opat. “I thought Iyana Jenkins and India Perry both had a good half each, but they have to learn to put together a full game.”
Cochise women’s basketball was led by Perry with 15 points. Jenkins followed with 14 points and 14 rebounds, recording a double-double.
